Who are you? Introduce yourself
Neelofer Wildflower Mir
I am a thinker, a poet, an artist. I make tracks with spoken words to beats but I am bringing my own style into the mix. I paint pictures with words and bring the art of telling a story into the music. I have a message to share with the world and I am doing that through my own style of musical expression.
Describe your sound ?
Edgy yet soothing, London origins with a Global sound. Strong Spoken word fused with futuristic beats.
Describe in a sentence what music does for you?
It elevates my soul and feeds my mind.
What is your favourite sound ?
Tabla rhythms and Spanish guitar.
why do you like making music?
Music speaks to my soul and the creative within me. I have a natural gift for words and how to use them. I love making music because you can make your creative expression as unique as you like. There is freedom in this artform.
What is one of your favourite musical experience ?
I have to say one of the most memorable musical events for me was seeing one of my all time musical and poetic hero’s Jill Scott perform live in London. I was literally in awe of her stage presence, her voice and her grace. It was an unforgettable atmosphere as she had everyone mesmerised.
what other underground artist would you would recommend we should check out ?
Right now for me I think “The Leano” is doing some cool stuff, it’s a nice mixture of hip-hop and folk music. Something different.
Whats your tip of the day ?
Never let the media or the so called “mainstream” make you feel like your music isn’t good enough or that any manufactured artist is more talented than you.
We heard a rumour that you had been working with Talvin Singh whats happening with that project ?
Being approached By Talvin Singh (after he heard my music on myspace) to collaborate on a track with him has been one of my highlights. We ended up producing an awesome track. ((Watch this space for an exclusive release)).
There are some other projects in the pipeline for early 2011. I am hoping to launch an expression platform for young Muslim women in the UK. I have also been invited to perform as Guest Poet at Teton Academy (Wyoming, USA) for their National Poetry Month Showcase in April 2011. Next year will also see me launch into radio – so it’s going to be an exciting and busy year.
You were featured on a reality series this summer – can you tell us a little bit about that. Would you consider doing reality again?
Yes, its funny really it was just a random thing I applied for just because I felt like doing it. I applied to go on C4’s reality series “Coach Trip” – basically you are one of 7 couples on a coach travelling through Europe and one couple gets voted off the coach at the end of every day. I applied with my cousin and we sailed through the audition process. The next thing we knew, we got the call to say we had been chosen out of 14,000 applicants!
It was a once in a lifetime experience and I will never forget it. The best part was going to places in Europe that I had not been to before and doing all the weird and wonderful activities that they set up. I can’t believe I was shown Burlesque dancing on TV !! The worst part was of course being put on a coach with people who I had nothing at all in common with. We were the first couple to be voted off the coach but it was inevitable really because I was determined to be myself and that means telling the truth and not sucking up to people – that’s not my style. So yes I was officially “too real for reality tv”.
It’s a good thing sometimes to push yourself beyond your comfort zone and try new things. It helps you to grow as a person. For me personally, it was more interesting to see how reality TV works behind the scenes, because I am naturally inquisitive about these things. Would I do it again ? Never say never right ?
We heard you are on the look out for up and coming animators and visual artist to collaborate is this on your latest single
I am looking to collaborate with visual artists and animators on the video for my latest single.
